Home The Flying Priest

Since I got my pilot’s license a little over a year ago I have been flying down to the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, KS about once a month. On the third Thursday of every month they have a special morning program called Coffee at the Cosmo that includes a lecture and sometimes an exhibition of rarely seen artifacts. This past week the Hutchinson News came out to interview me and did a very nice story as well as a video. The Associated Press picked up the article and it ran in newspapers across the country. Now when I go out in Topeka people stop me and say “Hey, you’re that flying priest!” The original article is here and the video is embedded below or linked here. Thanks to Kristen for a great article and a chance to make a little “commercial” for God.

Great video and article!

I had no idea that one of the astronauts brought the Eucharist with him! Amazing. Neat information about 11 of the 12 being Scouts too. Thanks for sharing this with us.

We’ve got a little science museum here in Seattle – and a not-so-little airport. Fly in anytime; you’re always welcome to stay at one of our rectories!

Peace,
Fr. Jacob Maurer

Fr. Shawn,

I belong to St. Dominic’s Parish in Holton, but join my daughter and family at Mother Teresa Sun. a.m.’s for mass. I’ve enjoyed your homilies as you filled in for Fr. Tom Aug. 2013. Both my sons learned to fly through Post 8, Jay Hubbell was their instructor. One (TJ)(now flies bell helicopter and is a cfi for the highway patrol in Topeka, and Greg flies for United. Hope you can meet them some day I’m sure you’d all have great stories to share. You’re a great priest and homilist. God Bless and I wish you the best in your future ‘studies’. Mary Wahlmeier
