Lenten Reflections – Week 1 – 40 Days in the Wilderness

by Shawn P. Tunink

Today’s talk journeys from the Mt. of Temptation to the site of the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. The Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness because they needed to learn to trust God. Jesus was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days in preparation for his public ministry. During Lent, we voluntarily enter in the wilderness, at least spiritually, to purify our hearts and prepare to renew the promises of our baptism in new freedom.

This talk is part 1 in a series of 6 talks given to a lunchtime prayer group at Garmin for the Thursdays of Lent 2024
